Springboard IP Advantage client Aruna Revolution – a women-led Canadian company pioneering sustainable and inclusive healthcare solutions – is proud to announce that it has inked a deal with investors on the acclaimed CBC television show Dragons’ Den.
Airing on January 9, 2025, Aruna secured a transformative deal with Dragons Michele Romanow and Manjit Minhas, further solidifying its mission to redefine the disposable hygiene industry with innovative compostable menstrual products.
The Aruna team came to the Den asking for $250,000 for a 10 per cent share in their business. After some negotiations, Romanow and Minhas came together and offered $300,000 for 25 per cent of Aruna Revolution, which was accepted.

Revolutionizing Menstrual Health
Aruna Revolution is tackling the significant environmental impacts of traditional disposable hygiene products, which contributes to global waste, water pollution, and soil degradation. Just in North America alone, 20 billion menstrual products and their packaging end up in landfills annually. The company’s compostable menstrual products, crafted from plant-based fibres, align with sustainability goals while ensuring accessibility and equity for diverse communities.
We sat down with Aruna Revolution CEO Rashmi Prakash to discuss her intellectual property challenges and journey with IP Advantage. (The interview occurred before the Dragon’s Den deal in 2025.)
What makes your company so innovative? Tell us briefly about your product.
“Aruna is revolutionizing menstrual health management with compostable pads using natural fibers extracted via a proprietary process we’ve developed. Our product addresses both environmental concerns and personal health, providing a sustainable and health-conscious alternative in the menstrual care market that is better for our bodies and the planet.”
Before the Atlantic IP Advantage program, what worried you most about your company and protecting your IP?
“Before the Atlantic IP Advantage program, our biggest concern was how to protect our innovative fiber extraction process effectively on a global scale. We were unsure about the best approach to secure our IP internationally, especially as we eyed expansion into new markets which were reaching out to us to use our fibers as a sustainable alternative for other products including make up pads & diapers.”
How has the IP strategy funding from Atlantic IP Advantage helped you?
“We’re SO grateful for the IP strategy funding from Atlantic IP Advantage. The IP strategy funding from Atlantic IP Advantage has been transformative for us in many ways. We were able to work with our IP lawyer for extended periods of time to develop our IP strategy which then enabled us to expand our provisional patents and move towards PCT filings, ensuring broader international protection. This support has been crucial in safeguarding our technology as we prepare to enter global markets.”
What’s next for your company?
“Moving forward, Aruna plans to leverage our strengthened IP portfolio to explore new business opportunities and markets. We will continue innovating within the menstrual health sphere and beyond, aiming to apply our sustainable technology to other products. Our goal is to make a significant impact on both health and environmental sustainability worldwide.”
Anything you want to mention about your IP journey so far?
“Our IP journey, supported significantly by the Atlantic IP Advantage program, has taught us the importance of comprehensive and strategic IP management. It has not only protected our innovations but also positioned us for future growth and partnerships. We’ve learned that a well-managed IP portfolio is crucial for securing a competitive edge and fostering business expansion.”
