University of Prince Edward Island
The University of Prince Edward Island (UPEI) has a rich history with roots in two founding institutions, Prince of Wales College (est. 1834) and Saint Dunstan’s University (est. 1855). Formed in 1969 as the provincial university, UPEI honours its proud legacy through academic excellence and research innovation. In 2019, the University celebrated 50 years of outstanding leadership and achievement in education and research.
Underlying the University’s programs and activities is a commitment to rigorous study and inquiry, belief in the value of knowledge, lifelong capacity-building, and the development of the whole person—along with a sense of community at UPEI and in its local, regional, national, and international contexts. Faculty in all disciplines produce research and scholarly works of national and international calibre, while continuing to give priority to offering students an educational experience designed to help them reach their potential as future leaders. UPEI’s dedication to the highest standards in education is reflected in its alumni, who enjoy success in their chosen fields around the world.
The Office of Commercialization, Industry, and Innovation (OCII) provides expertise and knowledge to University of Prince Edward Island faculty, students, and staff in support of: research partnership development, intellectual property (IP) protection, and commercialization of products, processes, services, and insights that can provide practical social and economic benefit beyond the university environment. OCII is the bridge between industry and researchers at the University of Prince Edward Island. OCII works with researchers to transform their innovative ideas into commercial products and business opportunities.
