Dr. Dion Hicks is the Intellectual Property Advisor at Memorial University’s Research Innovation Office (RIO). Dion was raised in a small fishing community in NL until he relocated to St. John’s to start his academic journey. In 2008, he graduated from Memorial with a bachelor’s degree in computer engineering. He continued to pursue more hands-on development by completing his Master’s in Mechanical Engineering in 2012 and a Ph.D. in Computer Engineering in 2017 with a specialization in mechatronics.
Along with his engineering capabilities, Dion has gained insight into startup fundamentals by working at several startups. This has allowed him to develop multiple prototypes for electro-mechanical systems such as quadcopters, light tracking mechanisms, holographic systems, and food inspection machines.
