AI and Beyond: Canadian Software and Data Licensing Workshop (AUTM Webinar)

“Artificial intelligence (AI) and other data-driven technologies are moving quickly. Intellectual property (IP), the regulatory environment and dealmakers are all playing catch-up to develop best practices amid a rush toward the marketplace. This workshop will address everything that Canadian technology transfer offices need to know about data, evaluating data-driven technology and commercialization. The focus will be on Canada, taking international factors into consideration.

This seminar will cover:

• Types of IP that can exist around data
• Determining if a data-driven technology, such as an AI invention, is patentable
• Navigating third-party licenses for software and data, including proprietary, open-source and Creative Commons licenses
• Data privacy and sharing
• Garbage in, garbage out – what are the characteristics of a data set and company ready for AI commercialization?
• Licensing out and spinning off academic technology – payment terms, exclusivity, milestones and liabilities
• Case studies and best practices for managing IP and data agreements in a university or research institute setting”
