SYDNEY — Officials with Cape Breton University have signed a memorandum of understanding with China Synfuels.
The signing came during a trade mission to China led by Premier Darrell Dexter.
The MOU establishes a framework for CBU and China Synfuels to develop a collaboration agreement that will lead to the establishment of a Synfuels research and development laboratory at the Verschuren Centre for Sustainability in Energy and the Environment. It is intended to explore the possibilities for developing joint research programs and collaborations and foster a strong working relationship and partnership toward energy security through collaborative efforts on the commercialization of synthetic fuels.
“This agreement is the culmination of months of discussion and negotiation and builds on CBU’s strong positioning in China which has seen a significant number of students studying at CBU, industry training, government liaison and now industrial research,” CBU president John Harker said in a news release. “This is the type of industrial research which could have a significant impact on the economy of Nova Scotia and indeed the world, all emanating from research at CBU.”
Cape Breton University was the first Canadian university to open its own office in Beijing in 2007.
