Canada’s Smartest Kitchen Gets Cooking With New Equipment
Canada’s Smartest Kitchen will purchase new, state-of-the-art equipment with funding recently announced in Charlottetown.
The equipment will help Holland College conduct further research on functional foods, gluten free, healthy nutrition, seafood, and beverage innovation. Through this project they will also be working to identify opportunities with potential business partners and clients that align with these research areas.
Ottawa, through ACOA’s Business Development Program, has invested $102,905 to help with the purchase and Holland College has invested an additional $34,302 to purchase the equipment. The funding was announced week by Gail Shea, minister of National Revenue and Minister for ACOA, and Holland College president Brian McMillan.
“Our government recognizes that innovation, skills and education are drivers in job creation and growth,” said Shea. “Canada’s Smartest Kitchen is one of our region’s leaders in the food and bioscience sector. Our government was proud to support the creation of this state-of-the-art facility and is pleased to show our continued support for the institute and the contribution it is making to the growth and development of our P.E.I. food products industry.”
Peter Crooks, executive director, Canada’s Smartest Kitchen, said, “This financial contribution has allowed us to expand our capabilities in food product development and equip our new Smart Studio with leading-edge technologies for food concept ideation, food styling and professional photography. This investment in Canada’s Smartest Kitchen will provide Atlantic Canadian SMEs with access to key services essential for food product promotion, sales and marketing.”
Holland College established Canada’s Smartest Kitchen in 2009. The facility serves as the food product research and development arm of the Culinary Institute of Canada and offers services such as product development, analysis and evaluation and product promotion.
