The CCNB received financial support from two levels of government for the establishment of the Atlantic Welding Technology Centre (AWTC) in Bathurst, New Brunswick. The AWTC will lead to the implementation of a Pan-Atlantic development initiative in the field of welding, in partnership with all the other public colleges of the region. The overall objective aims to improve the quality, productivity and competitiveness of the region’s manufacturing industry, by facilitating and accelerating the recognition, the adoption and adaptation of cutting-edge welding technologies and procedures by welding service providers and key industrial users in Atlantic Canada. Through partnerships with welding equipment manufacturers, the AWTC will provide innovative welding systems to local businesses and specialized training opportunities on the latest equipment.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
The individual will evaluate new developments in the field of welding for recommendation purposes and eventual application to common welding or manufacturing process problems. He/She will design and conduct research and development investigations to develop and test new manufacturing processes, improve existing equipment or develop new welding equipment, or develop new processes or modify existing welding processes, techniques and procedures. He/She will help businesses establish welding procedures to guide production and welders according to limit specifications, material processes, pre-heating and post-heating requirements involving the use of complex alloys, unusual manufacturing methods, welding of critical joints and complex post-heating requirements. He/She will prepare technical reports from research and development and preventive maintenance investigations. The individual could be called upon to develop and provide short training courses on welding specificities. He/She will establish and maintain contacts with staff from other organizations, technical staff or clients, to share ideas, information, or provide technical advice on welding questions.
The individual has a strong understanding of mechanical design as well as knowledge of operations in the fields of manufacturing, metal science and pure sciences (chemistry, mathematics, physics). He/She will apply his/her knowledge of production specifications, metal and metal alloy properties and characteristics and engineering principles, during the development of welding techniques and procedures as well the application of welding equipment for solving problems related to metal fabrication.
REQUIREMENTS:
The individual must possess a Master’s Degree in Welding Engineering and three (3) years of relevant business experience including responsibilities coordinating activities or projects.
OR
A Bachelor’s Degree in Welding Engineering and at least five (5) years of relevant business experience including responsibilities coordinating activities and projects.
Knowledge of written and spoken English and French is required – learning one or these two languages will be possible in the course of employment. Must possess superior interpersonal skills and good writing, communication and leadership skills to work in a rapidly changing work environment. Must be autonomous, productive and willing to meet challenges related to establishing a collegiate structure dedicated to meeting business research and industrial services needs. Could be required to work evenings according to the needs of entrepreneurs and be willing to travel within the province, in other parts of the country and sometimes abroad.

JOB DESCRIPTION:
The individual selected will report directly to the Manager of the AWTC and will be an active member of a small team responsible for developing a research capability and welding industrial services as well as promoting the emergence of advanced welding practices and technologies within companies active in this sector in New Brunswick, but also those of the Greater Atlantic Region.
The individual will be responsible for canvassing companies active in the New Brunswick welding sector, with the objective of securing their commitment to support initiatives stemming from the ATWC activities. He/She will establish and maintain contacts with staff from other organizations, AWTC technical staff and manufacturing companies, to share ideas, information, or provide technical advice on welding questions. He/She will promote the services provided by the ATWC to businesses and will keep abreast of their needs for research, industrial services and specialized equipment. He/She will keep up-to-date with the various industrial subsidy programs. He/She will also keep abreast of their needs for short specialized training courses. He/She will organize and hold workshops in order to promote advanced welding processes and technologies. The officer will be asked to actively participate in the deployment and activities of the Atlantic network’s team of four (4) Welding Business Development Officers coordinated by the AWTC. The individual will have a significant role to play in organizing trade shows in the Atlantic region.
REQUIREMENTS:
Must possess a Welding Technologist diploma and at least five (5) years of business experience in the field of welding.
OR
A Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering and at least three (3) years of business experience in the field of welding.
Knowledge in metal processing, the development of welding technologies as well as sales experience in the welding sector are considered assets. Knowledge of written and spoken English and French is required. Must possess superior interpersonal skills and good writing, communication and leadership skills to work in a rapidly changing work environment. The individual will work at the AWTC in partnership with a research engineer and a welding business development officer, as well as engineers, technologists and tradespersons working for the MWC or the CCNB as instructors. This person will provide the technical support required for research and development investigations to develop and test new manufacturing processes, improve existing equipment or design new welding equipment, or develop new processes or modify existing welding processes, techniques and procedures. He/She will have to maintain close networking relationships with equipment and process providers, as well as maintain cutting-edge industry know-how related to any new technological development in the field of welding, in order to inform and educate business officers on these new technologies and their application in solving manufacturing problems.
He/She will help businesses more easily integrate new welding processes and technologies. Together with the research engineer, he/she will help businesses establish procedures to guide their production and welders according to limit specifications, material processes, pre-heating and post-heating requirements involving the use of complex alloys, unusual manufacturing methods, welding of critical joints and complex post-heating requirements. He/she will specialize in automation and robotics for recommendation purposes and eventual application to business manufacturing processes. The individual will inspect parts or components using handheld state-of-the-art metrology equipment (ultrasonic, coordinate measuring, hardness, microscopy, etc.). He/She will apply metallurgy principles in order to prepare and carry out thermal processes (induction, radiant, etc.).
The individual could be assigned to or coordinate special or ad hoc projects according to needs. He/she will have to read, understand and follow work instructions in a safe, accurate and timely manner. He/she will prepare clear and concise technical reports from research and development results and preventive maintenance investigations. He/she will design parts and assemblies using computer-aided design software. The individual could be called upon to collaborate in the development and delivery of short training courses on welding specificities. He/she will establish and maintain contacts with staff from other organizations, technical staff or clients, to share ideas, information, or provide technical advice on welding questions.
REQUIREMENTS:

JOB DESCRIPTION:
The individual will be responsible for the establishment of the Atlantic Welding Technology Center (AWTC) under the auspices of the Metallurgy and Welding Centre (MWC), while ensuring the continuation of operations at the Metal Innovation and Technology Transfer of Centre (MITTC). The fundamental responsibility initially associated with this position is to plan and put in place a strategy for the implementation of a Pan-Atlantic development initiative in the field of welding, in partnership with various industrial, institutional and government stakeholders. This individual will manage AWTC human, material and financial resources in compliance with the standards of the CCNB and lenders. He/She will ensure that the implementation of projects meets the expectations and is performed within established budgets and timelines. He/She will implement timely and flexible services that meet the needs of SMEs. He/She will be an active participant in drafting and reviewing proposals for the implementation of research projects and industrial services, the acquisition of specialized equipment and the addition of qualified personnel. He/She will be detail-oriented and exercise rigour in drafting and reviewing documents and proposals related to the operations and the development of the two MWC components. He/She will develop innovative partnerships with businesses, professional organizations, providers, postsecondary training institutions, lenders and communities that can benefit from the activities and spin-off of the AWTC. He/She will identify the expectations associated with donations and loans from equipment providers, consistent with the operations of the technology showcase carried out by the AWTC.
The individual will keep abreast of the various institutional and industrial subsidy programs, in order to make the MWC profitable and increase the range of services it provides. Together with its institutional and government partners, he/she will seek to facilitate interprovincial integration of specialized welding services that will be developed by all college institutions involved in the AWTC Pan-Atlantic initiative.
