What drives Chris Mathis? The thrill of fostering commercialization within the growing R&D industry in Atlantic Canada, his respect for the ingenuity of researchers, and the courage of entrepreneurs. As President & CEO, Chris helps advance percolating innovations at post-secondary institutions across the region to create an environment where viable knowledge transfer projects can flourish. Chris' leadership priorities include seeking new opportunities for academic and industry collaborations, cultivating strategic partnerships in both the public and private sectors, looking for new ways Springboard can enhance its support of members and businesses, and moving the organization towards sustainability.
A unique combination of engineer and entrepreneur, Chris gained his academic training at UNB and UPEI, and his entrepreneurial training commercializing the PhD research of Dr. Nancy Mathis into a successful and award-winning company, Mathis Instruments. Armed with these achievements, Chris sharpened his expertise by working with UNB’s Office of Research Services where he engaged industry partners for both R&D projects and traditional licensing, mentored knowledge transfer opportunities and supported new spin-off ventures.
Chris' enthusiasm for his work runs deep, as he considers building start-ups as one of his hobbies. More than just all business, Chris also enjoys hiking, snowshoeing, reading and movies.
